The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has linked severe heat waves in some areas to service outages that affect the effectiveness of electricity supply.
This season's high temperatures and higher electricity consumption lead to overloading problems in several operating locations.
William Boateng, Director of Communications at ECG, said in a Daily Graphic interview that the company's infrastructure was being strained by a 10% increase in electrical consumption since December.
He said "The issue of the generational shortages has been fixed. But outages are still being experienced in some areas and that is mainly due to the increase in power demand at this time of the year when the extremely high temperature means prolonged use of cooling appliances.
"That could also lead to blown fuses and broken conductors, causing phase-offs and in some areas, low voltages, we, therefore, encourage customers to report any such localised outages and voltage fluctuations to the ECG Call Centre for immediate redress."
Boateng pointed out that ECG has invested in infrastructure to greatly improve its services in spite of these setbacks.
He went on to say that the company plans to make more investments in improving service efficiency in the next year.
